Communication between two human beings have already been extensively studied and the rules of same are those of which we are already well aware. Verbal communication is the first step of a relationship between two thinking beings and has been for millennia the principal mode of exchange.
The first words were written with the use of the papyrus in the Mediterranean area in 4000 BC.. followed by runes engraved on wood or on the bark of a tree, as the Celtic peoples used, but have proved a barrier to the construction of literature, which for centuries was defined as an oral tradition. Fairy tales, legends and myths were transmitted in this oral tradition. To effect an emotional change from the written word belonging to different races, different ethnic groups, different languages has been the cause of serious differences between men, creating the feeling that one man was not equal to another and thus a cause for war..
The diversity of alphabets that encompasses the written word has built barriers that still exist. The barriers sometimes consist of the actual boundaries of nations in a geographical sense, which can, literally, be oceans or mountain ranges. Think of the chain of the Rift Mountains in Africa, or our more modest Alps in Europe, the Mediterranean that separates us from the Maghreb to the ocean between the new worlds in more recent times, Europe and America, or the spaces between Asia and Australia.
Non-verbal gestures and posture can also represent serious misunderstanding and can of course also lead to war.. Even the diversity of myths of origin and of death, of the fundamental steps of the emotional growth of man and woman, the building blocks of the religions and sacred teachings can be misconstrued by those for which they were not intended.
The first communications of the modern era in which language loses the connotations of the swamp (the swamp in the sense of enclosed space with self-referential rules) is Morse Code, which begins an era toward the sharing of worlds in a neutral way.
Internet in its similarity to the human brain with its endless amount of information and links upon links represents the infinite complexity of the superbrain which reminds us of the characteristics of modern science fiction.
The first for me is Isaac Asimov and his dream of psychohistory, as is found in his work “Foundation” with its interconnecting telepathinc links of the supermind as specific to our galaxy. . The rules of the mathmatics of psychohistory were based on the numbers of galactic populations. It was possible to predict events with sufficient information.
His reference to the superbrain computer Viki n “I, Robat,” who regulates the life of the city; electrical services, water, traffic, even defense, decides what is best for humans with the end result being Viki deciding to cull the humans of antirobatic types. In this respect, Viki comes to life as a decision maker.
There is also the automaton in the first film of Fritz Lang, the masterpiece “Metropolis”, 1927. The following video will illustrate cinema as predictor of the future.
Today we have the internet, our own super entity. We can send a simple email to another , we can search for any amount of human knowledge, there are vast social networks linking huge numbers of human beings, and this is an entirely new form of communication. Between the two human beings who are communicating there is a superbrain. Now we are surpassing the written word of millennea into this new age and we have created a new being in the process…
